FAST START TRAINING

New leaders can complete their Fast Start Training online for the following specific positions and activities: 

Cubmaster
Tiger Den Leader
Webelo Den Leader
Wolf/Bear Den Leader
Pack Committee
Boy Scout Leader
Troop Committee
Venture Crew Adviser
District Committee
Youth Protection
Safe Swim Defense
Safety Afloat Training

 
The first step requires you to create an account, and then you can immediately start training.  Training can be started and completed at another time.

Before registering for your BSA account, you will need your BSA ID number (aka "person number") which is on your BSA registration card.  If you can't find your BSA registration card, or haven't received on yet, you can still register online.  The council will receive notification when you have successfully completed one of the training modules.

TIGER LEADER TRAINING

Tiger training is conducted each autumn.  Leader-specific training which includes New Leader Essentials. New Leader Essentials is an introductory session that highlights the values, aims, history, funding, and methods of Scouting. It addresses how these aims and methods are reached in an age-appropriate style within Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Varsity Scouting, and Venturing. Videos, discussions, and hands-on reinforcement are presented during the 90-minute training session.  Each leader completes New Leader Essentials training only once.

Tiger Leader specific training prepares the new Tiger Leader for starting the new Tigers (and the Tiger parents) off on the right foot.  Preparations, planning, meetings, advancements, the Scouting year, uniforming, and many other aspects of Tiger Cubs will be presented.  This session will be held at Camp Seminole.

Lunch and materials will be provided.  Before attending this session, Tiger Leaders should read the Tiger Cub Handbook.  Cost per session is $5.00.  To register for this session, contact Lori at the Council Office, 662-328-7228, or Melanie Greene, at 662-323-7758.

CUB LEADER TRAINING

Leader-specific training which includes New Leader Essentials. New Leader Essentials is an introductory session that highlights the values, aims, history, funding, and methods of Scouting. It addresses how these aims and methods are reached in an age-appropriate style within Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Varsity Scouting, and Venturing. Videos, discussions, and hands-on reinforcement are presented during the 90-minute training session.  Each leader completes New Leader Essentials training only once.

This training covers leader-specific aspects of the Wolf, Bear, and Webelo program. Lunch and materials are provided, to register, contact the Council Office at 662-328-7228.  Cost is $5.

BOY SCOUT BASIC LEADER TRAINING

Boy Scout Basic Leader Training is done over the course of two sessions.

Session I, Scoutmaster Fundamentals, is held at Camp Seminole, in the COPE Lodge. 

Session II, OWL Training, will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Training begins promptly at 7:00 Friday evening, and ends around 2:00 PM Sunday afternoon.  This session is held in the Apache campsite at Camp Seminole.

BOTH sessions are required in order to wear the Trained strip in the Boy Scout program.  The cost for the entire training (both sessions) is $35.  This includes lunch in the first session, and three meals in the second session, and all materials.
