| Any Scouter
who has been at this for more than a year or two will have accumulated at
least one three-ring binder full of Roundtable helps, "how-to"
sheets, various guides, meeting helps, etc. Those binders can be
more annoying than helpful if they're not organized. |
| Separate
the papers in your binder by topics. Pick up a package of page
dividers at your local office supply or discount store. These
usually come 5 pages to the pack, and have clear tabs on the edges.
They cost about a buck for five dividers. Also in the pack will be
five little white cardboard inserts for the clear tabs. What most folks do
is write the topic on the cardboard slips, and then insert the slips into
the tabs. |
| A much
easier way, and one that looks a whole lot neater, is to make a template
of the slips in MS Word, and just fill in the topics you want in your
tabs. Print out the template, cut out each label with scissors, and
insert them in the clear tabs. To make the tabs extra stiff, slide
the cardboard slips in behind the new labels. If you decide to reorganize
later, just print out new slips, replace the old, and you're done. |

sample label template, with some topics already filled in.

Here's what the finished product
looks like in the three-ring binder:

|
| To make your
own labels for your dividers, just download this
file. Backspace over each each topic name, and type in the topic
you want. Print out the page, cut out the slips with scissors, and
you're done. |
| If you want
to make your own from scratch, use MS Word to create a table. Make
the cells .5" tall, and the rows 2" wide. Create .2 space
around each cell, so you can cut between the cells after printing. The
font used in the example above was Arial Black, all caps, 12 points.
You can adjust your font larger or smaller to allow for longer/shorter
topic names. Be sure to center-justify each topic in its cell for
neatness. |
