Scouts face the Firmeman's Challenge, which is getting in full fire gear in 60 seconds or less

Scouts in turn-out gear with Air Force instructor

Over 200 Boy Scouts and leaders from 15 troops and crews of the Pushmataha Area Council attended the Spring Camporee at Columbus Air Force Base the weekend of March 22, 2014.   Scouts toured the air base's state-of-the-art fire station, getting hands-on experience at donning turn-out gear, manning the hoses, and even getting a shot at cranking the diesel response trucks.   Other tours included the K-9 security unit, where security officers demonstrated the efficiency and control of the canine security teams, and a tour of the radar control systems.

One of the highlights of Saturday morning was when the fire control teams ignited a fire in a giant mock-up of a cargo jet, and then extinguished the fire with remote control water nozzles from a closed fire response truck.  While Scouts and leaders watched from a safe distance, the giant form was ignited in a simulation of a crash and burn scenario, and the fire was extinguished in a matter of moments.

The Big Push Is Back In Print

The Big Push is back in print.  Originally written by then-president Dan Wrather, the newsletter has been revamped and is now being produced by Council Commissioner Dan Gent and his happy staff of commissioners.

The first issue can be downloaded and read from our RESOURCES menu at the left, and it has been emailed to all Scout leaders on our two email lists (BoyScout@Pushmataha.Org, and CubScout@Pushmataha.Org).

If you're not on the email lists for our council, you're probably missing out on a lot of helpful information. Look in the RESOURCES menu at the left, and choose the "Scout Leader Email Lists" link, or you can just click this link.
