The BSA suggests that any time you place a youth in a vehicle to go on a Scouting trip, that you have a tour permit issued for that trip.
The BSA requires that any trip outside your home county have a tour permit issued.
If the trip is outside your home county, and less than 500 miles one way, then you'll need a local tour permit.
If the trip is more than 500 miles one way, then you'll need a national tour permit.
Tour permits are issued online through the BSA MyScouting.Org website, and must be filed at least two weeks prior to the start of the trip.
If you already have a MyScouting.Org account, follow these steps to make a tour permit application: Step 1: Go to MyScouting.Org, and log in.
Step 2:After logging in, look at the left hand menu, under Unit Tools, click on Tour Permits.
The first time you apply for a tour permit online, you will be asked for details on your unit, such as the vehicles you will use, the insurance coverage on those vehicles, insurance limits, driver information, and so forth, just as if you were filling out a paper application.
The good news is, MyScouting,Org will save your information, and as long as nothing has changed in those areas, filling out the next application will be a breeze.
Your completed application will be returned to you via email, as two .pdf documents. Print them, take them with you, and you are in business! If you don't have a MyScouting.org account, use this link to create one: Create an account on MyScouting.Org
