WATONALA THUNDER MAKES HEADLINES

Eagle Scout Thomas Sowers, left, performs a Grass Dance from the early 1900s for students at Starkville Academy. The dance was used to flatten the grass for the rest of the dancers; younger dancers were traditionally assigned this dance. Sowers won second place in the Southeast Conclave with his performance; he is a student at Starkville High. The Fancy Dance is performed by Johnny Wells, right, a student at Starkville Academy. The Fancy Dance was developed for shows like Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. Wells is a student at Starkville Academy.
