2005 National Jamboree Pushmataha Area Council Shoulder Strip

When Troop 1520 of the Pushmataha Area Council left for the 2005 Jamboree, each boy had several of the strip shown above in his pocket to use as trading material at the Jamboree.  The images in the design were chosen to represent America, Mississippi, and the Council.

The background of the American flag supports a magnolia, the state flower of Mississippi, as well as the Mississippi state flag.  The USAF jet represents Columbus Air Force Base, the busiest air field in the world, which is located only a few miles from our council office.  The fleur de lis makes this patch an official BSA patch.  The gold lettering on the patch was originally black, but the gold showed up better against the red and blue, so the black lettering was supplanted with the gold.

The patch exactly like the one shown above was never worn by our Scouts attending the Jamboree.  The patch they wore was identical to this one, but with a pure white border instead of red.  The red border indicates this patch was a trading patch.  The white trimmed patches are precious keepsakes of the journey, and it is doubtful few, if any, will ever end up as part of the vast Boy Scout patch trading arena.
